Tucson, Ariz. – Union Pacific’s historic steam locomotive called The 844 rolled through Arizona in 2012 as part of the state’s centennial celebration.
One of the only steam locomotives still in use anywhere in the world, it draws large crowds everywhere it goes.
Thousands of people got an intimate view of The 844 when it parked at the Tucson railroad yard for a couple of days.
Listen to the story:
I climbed aboard The 844 for a conversation with the engineer, and to capture a few close-up sounds of the legendary iron horse.
